You’ve been trying to get pregnant for months. Your friends and family have all been getting pregnant and having babies. You have tried most if not all the standard tips and tricks to get pregnant, but for you it seems like pregnancy is avoiding you. Is it time to seek help or advice from a doctor or fertility specialist for help getting pregnant?
Things to Consider
Making sure you check and chart your ovulation cycle. By doing this you will know when the best time to become pregnant is. There are several ways to accomplish this. One way is to check your Basal Body Temperature with a thermometer. Second is by using an ovulation detector strip which works the same as a pregnancy test. Third is to monitor your cervical mucus. During their most fertile times women discharge an egg white-like discharge.
Consider your age. Women go through reproductive changes as they age. Women in their 30’s only have about a 20 percent chance to become pregnant each month. As you enter your 40’s your chances go down to 15 percent each month.
There may be medical reasons you are not conceiving easily. Your menstrual cycles are irregular or completely absent. You have been exposed to sexually transmitted diseases. Pelvic abnormalities or surgery can prevent becoming pregnant. Some other medical issues may be sexual dysfunction, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic diseases and eating disorders. If you don’t have any of the problems above then perhaps you need to ask if your partner is the one to seek medical advice.
What can my Husband do?
Sometimes infertility isn’t caused by the woman. Men may be the infertile one. Semen analysis is the only real test to find out for men. Your regular Doctor can inform you more about this test, you don’t have to see a specialist. Just like women men’s age can be a factor. As they age their sperm count can diminish. You should look at your medical history also; diabetes, STD’s, testicular injury, and sexual dysfunction can cause infertility.
If you have looked into and tried all these suggestions and you still have not gotten pregnant after a year then it’s time to seek a medical professional. There are many fertility specialists that you can go to. Your general physician should be able to direct you to a good clinic.
