Breast Cancer Signs And Steps To Take

by Stephan Grindley

Breast cancer affects women of all ages. That is why it is important to know about breast cancer signs and what action should be taken if you experience any of them. While you may experience symptoms of breast cancer, only a doctor can make the diagnosis that for sure. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possibe.

A lump is often the first breast cancer sign a woman might experience. This lump will have a different feeling because of its surrounding tissue. Since a lump is one of the first breast cancer signs to appear, women should habitually perform self exams to increase their chance of early detection. The earlier it is found, the greater the chance of beating breast cancer.

Besides a lump, some of the other breast cancer signs to look out for include changes in the sizes or shape of the breast, dimpling of the skin on the breast, or a nipple that is inverted or that has discharge coming out of it. Your doctor should be made aware of any such signs and changes as soon as reasonably possible.

Women are increasingly aware of any changes in their breasts as potential signs of breast cancer. One collection of symptoms they need to pay especial attention to are those surrounding Paget's disease, since it can be an indication of cancer. It's effects can include itchiness, discomfort, flaky or irritation on the nipples, or heightened sensitivity. Only your primary physician will be able to make a final determination, so as with any unusual symptoms, make sure to see them if you notice any of these changes.

Sometimes, other signs and symptoms can indicate the presence of breast cancer. These signs and symptoms include rapid, unexplained weight loss, or unexplained fevers that do not disappear within a few days. Also, bone and joint pain, jaundice or various brain-related symptoms can be associated with breast cancer. It is important to make note of such changes and bring them to the attention of your physician.

Remember that although you may experience certain symptoms, more than likely breast cancer will not be the cause. But you should still take any symptoms seriously. Until you consult with your physician, you should not become unduly upset. Just make an appointment so that your doctor can determine if there is a possible problem and if so, how to proceed.

Breast cancer can strike at any age. Therefore, knowing the breast cancer signs and symptoms is very important. One of the best factors in beating breast cancer is early detection. One of the best methods of detection is the monthly self exam. One of the things that you must take note of is if your breast changes size and or shape. One thing to keep in mind is that most symptoms of breast cancer don't end up being breast cancer. Simply make an appointment with your doctor and get yourself checked out.
